New FA Proposal for EU and Homegrown Players

Essentially the FA are to tighten up work permits, reduce the number of non-EU players, and require the minimum number of homegrown players to be 12 out of the 25 man squad. And the definition of "Homegrown" will be tightened up too. I can see this as a double-edged sword. While we all might like to see more homegrown talent get a chance, this could affect West Ham adversely; the core of our first team now contains: Sakho, Valencia, Kouyate, Adrian. So what do you all think?

I would think it might not affect present players at a club but say future signings maybe from Jan 1st. I would worry about the definition of homegrown players, is that English or British players. Over here in the ROI young players who play in a semi- professional league sometimes get a chance to improve themselves by playing in The Premiership if they are lucky or lower leagues. I fully understand the reasoning behind it when you see the youth at West Ham can't get a look in.

I'd rather the FA set about vastly improving the coaching situation in this country. The utter failure of the England side over the last 50 years has nothing to do with too many foreigners. But that would cost loads of dosh they would rather spend "elsewhere."

They started the decline of football when working with the FA to create the Premier League, by providing large sums of money to clubs so that they could start bringing in some of the best overseas players. The money on offer to clubs kept going up due to Sky having competition, and the bidding became more intense over the years, hence why we now have some of the cream of the global market. I think back to pre-Sky and the World Cup in 1990, as I thought that we had a Team actually capable of winning it and yet we failed to make the next one in 1994! Since then I can't remember being excited about having a Team that I thought would be capable of having a decent chance?

Reduces the amount of dross that comes in and potentially allows the spread of foreign players across the clubs. No longer will the Chekski's, manure's, manshitty's be able to buy up all the best foreign talent and homegrown talent will be developed and given a shot. Sounds like a win to me
