The Transfer Budget: Who We Can/should Sell and for How Much Realistically Come Summer

Submitted by fred149 on

Coming off the back of another loss, I think for most, its become quite apparent as to why we've been battling relegation the previous few seasons. Players that I believe we thought were good enough but just under performing its turns out are just not good enough, and whilst we have 4 or 5 good players, and while pellegrini isn't blameless, i'm sure he expected certain individuals to be better then they are. So with a rumoured £25m starting transfer budget, I like most felt like this was way lower then what it should be. However looking in to a bit deeper, you can start to see why. Previous season we didn't really sell anybody, just loaned players out this along with the fact we pay many players silly wages you start to realise that for a club with our resources we have a lot of players on our books. So as the title suggests, who could we sell and how much realistically. In my opinion we need a mass clearout, was thinking along the lines of: Arnautovic £30m, Oxford £10m, Snodgrass £6m, Masuaku £6m, Obiang £5m, Ogbonna £5m, Hugill £5m, Byram £3m, Cullen £3m, Sanchez £2m, Perez £2m = £77m

All seem realistic enough, maybe under priced a few and over priced a couple others, but you never know with this market. If that was to happen and you add it all to the budget you have circa 100m to spend again and thats without taking in to consideration that Carroll, Adrian and maybe Zab are all leaving on a free and Edi Fernandez comes back off loan aswell. We have a lot of deadwood!

Ben Johnson

I know its only one game but I was quite impressed with Ben Johnson and games like this he can only improve he did Quite well against Riyad Mahraz and he is no mug lost him a couple of times at the beginning of the game but once he settled down thought he did quite well which resulted in Mahraz having a frustrating game and substituted. Who knows could be another Declan in the making as long as he is coached properly and doesn't end up like Oxford did

Safe and its still Feb

February and we are safe no getting relegated what on earths going on the worlds gone crazy what are we gonna do between now and the end of the season? El Pel has too go this is west ham we expect a dogfight and much fingernail chewing but we dont have that no burning the midnight oil calculating all the possibile outcomes from every match no screaming out loud when a rival pulls out a massive result when unexpected and piling the pressure on...no we have been deprived of that drama all thanks to El Pel get him out now he's ruining this great clubs traditions.

They wanted it more...

Same old story this season & if it was any other previous westham manager they would be getting pelters!that was up there with the most embarrassing nights in our history & el pel has got away relatively stick free imo.
The 2 good notable wins this season were against manure & the arse but let's be honest we were lucky in that they were really poor performances from both of them.weve lost twice to Bournemouth, lucky to squander a point to brighton in 2 games, watford keep beating us,Burnley also now bottom of div 1 wimbledon pull our pants down!!
For all the pretty tippy tappy football pellegrini needs to add some steel to this side imo
10 mill a year,100 mill war chest.. is el pel being found out? wolves up next so we will see

With a possible 45 points left for this season

and the fact we still have to play Liverpool, Man City, Manu, Chelsea and Tottenham again in those 15 games I would be interested to see how many points we can muster by the end of this season. There are a few games that should be a shoe in but we all know nothing is assured with us. I will stick my head out to be chopped off and say twenty points from here with five wins and a couple of draws. That would be 51 points which being El Pelles first season I would be happy with. The games that I think we should win are Fulham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Huddersfield and Southampton that would mean there would be ten games to get a couple of draws. Also hopefully we can get the result against Wimbledon and get a favourable draw for the next round.

whats all the big noise about the spying? personally i think theres nothing wrong with a manager trying to get some tips about how a team will set up in the match. whats wrong with that? He may be foreign and not care about manners but i give him credit for trying to get the upper hand. its not cheating. in the days gone by id suggest it was commonplace for 'scouts' to go and cast an eye on how the opposition were training, what they were concentrating on etc. is this another case of the modern P.C society getting all up in arms about something so they can get some attention? If i were a Leeds fan id be happy that my manager goes the extra to get results. perhaps frank should try doing the same.
